Before fabric exists, there is thread, spinning is a primal gesture that twists loose fibers into a continuous line. Hilanderas draws from this ancestral act, historically carried out in silence by generations of women, transforming it into a contemporary spatial language shaped by tension and gravity.
Suspended threads trace catenary curves, forming surfaces that evoke fabric held in air. Introducing textile as a new material within Atelier Mel’s practice, the installation explores lightness, flexibility and movement, translating a traditional craft gesture into a sculptural composition in delicate equilibrium.
